HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STAR A BLOWOUT

In what has traditionally been one of the most evenly matched All Star games in New England, New Haven County All Stars controlled the game against the Fairfield County All Stars in a convincing 49-0 victory.

After a turnover on their first position, Fairfield County found themselves down

7-0 after New Haven County’s quarterback Billy Ragone’s 4-yard running score. The 6’1” University of Pennsylvania recruit finished the game with three rushing touchdowns earning him Offensive MVP honors.

Ansonia’s Tristan Roberts flanked Ragone. Roberts finished the game with 117 yards rushing and the admiration of the crowd at Sacred Heart University. “He’s a legitimate Division I prospect,” said University of New Haven RB coach Stan Holmes, “he has all the tools to be a special player.” Roberts will attend Lackawanna Junior College. The Pennsylvania school is known as the top JUCO in the area and has a great connection with Purdue, South Carolina, and Texas Tech.

If nothing else, area fans got a chance to see some of the top recruits of local colleges perform at the high school level for the last time. WCSU signed 6 players, University of New Haven signed 4, and SCSU signed 8. “There is a lot of talent in this part of the State;” said Holmes, “these recruits will end up being the backbone of our programs.”
