Jeremy Moore, Hillhouse HS (New Haven), Football
The halls of Hillhouse High School will not be the same in a few weeks as the multi-talented Jeremy Moore prepares for graduation. A candidate for TOPBALLERZ.NET Athlete of the Year, Moore’s success on the playing field is only surpassed by his excellence in the classroom.
A First Team All-State selections as a senior, Moore excelled as a receiver, defensive back, and kick returner. He acquired 500 yards on 24 catches and six touchdowns on offense and then led the State with 10 interceptions as a defensive back. Named Tri-State Player of the Week after a 4-interception performance against nationally ranked Hoboken (NJ).
Calling basketball his “true love”, Moore was a three-year starter for coach Kermit Carolina. As a junior, his 19 points per game earned him 2nd Team All-State honors. A relentless defender, he led the league in steals with four per game. Senior year Moore led Hillhouse to a 23-1 record averaging 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals per game. Named First Team All-State, Moore was a McDonald All-American nominee.
Trying his hand at track and field for the first time as a senior, Moore was named First Team All-State finishing 1st in the high jump and 2nd in the triple and long jump at the State Championships.
In the classroom is where Moore really excels. An All-Academic performer both junior and senior year, the JCC Education Board named him their Scholar Athlete of the Year finishing high school with a 3.75 GPA.
Academics and football being Moore’s focus at the college level, he had colleges throughout the country to pick from. With Northeastern and Lehigh as strong contenders, Moore accepted a full academic/athletic scholarship to Georgetown University and will be competing for a starting defensive back spot in the fall.
Very seldom do we run across an athlete like Moore that has great ability both on and off the field. A desire to play in the NFL someday, Moore’s focus and determination may allow him to fulfill his dreams.
